KITTY BRAZELTON
Kitty Brazelton is a difficult composer to categorize. She is a rock musician
with a doctorate in composition from Columbia University. Her influences range
from free jazz improvisation to plainchant to funk. She has written music
for
pop singers, dancers, opera librettists, and new music chamber ensembles. Her
roles in musical projects have included composer, performer, bandleader, producer,
curator, and educator.
Brazelton's music has been featured worldwide by ensembles such as the California
E.A.R Unit, twisted tutu, the Manhattan Brass Quintet, and the Absolute Ensemble
Orchestra, and her music has been performed at the Lincoln
Center Festival, the
Bang on a Can Marathon, the Columbia University Interactive Arts Festival, and
the New Music America Festival.
Recent projects include What is it Like to be a Bat? (a digital punk trio), Hildegurls
(a 21st-century medieval quartet), and Fireworks, a 4th of July family opera
written with librettist Billy Aronson and commissioned by American Opera Projects
1999-2000.
