photo of jed distlerElena Georgiou's first book of poetry, mercy mercy me, won a Lambda Literary Award for poetry and was a finalist in the Publishing Triangle Award. She also co-edited (with Michael Lassell) the poetry anthology, The World In Us. She has received a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, a Virginia Center for the Creative Arts fellowship, and the Astraea Emerging Writers Award. mercy mercy me was reissued by the University of Wisconsin Press in the spring of 2003. She has been published in many journals; most recently in Bloom, Tarpaulin Sky, The Cream City Review, The Spoon River Review, and Gargoyle. She teaches poetry in the MFA program in writing at Goddard College, Vermont and at Hunter College of the City University of New York. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
