LAURA KAMINSKY
Laura Kaminsky is a talented composer, dedicated champion of new
music, and influential music educator. Works have been commissioned and
performed by Alan Feinberg, Sara Laimon, the Colorado Quartet, the New
Millennium Players, Odeon Quartet, Seattle Chamber Players, and the Infusion
Chamber Ensemble, among others, and have been presented in venues such
as the Kitchen and Symphony Space. Her most recent recording is with
Sara Laimon on CCI's Solo Flights, and her last compact disc, And Trouble
Came: Musical Responses to AIDS, was met with critical acclaim and has
been reprinted several times in the past four years.
Ms. Kaminsky has
created programs in New York for the 92nd Street Y, The New School, Town
Hall, and the European Mozart Academy in Poland and throughout Central
Europe. She has served on the boards of or as consultant to organizations
including the National Endowment for the Arts, the American Music Center,
The New York Foundation for the Arts, The Estate Project for Artists
with AIDS and Meet the Composer. She has produced numerous compact discs
of contemporary music for the Mode, CRI, and North/South labels including
a prize-winning two disc set Mosaic: Chamber Music of Henry Cowell. She
is the founder and director of the acclaimed new music ensemble Musicians
Accord, in residence at City College of New York since 1984, where she
works with David Del Tredici and his students. Currently, she is chair
of the music department at the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle.
