ALMA MELENDEZ
Born in the 70's, on the brink of a civil war in her native El Salvador, writer/storyteller Alma Melendez immigrated with her family to Far Rockaway,Queens. Based in New York City, Alma divides her time between Brooklyn and the Lower East Side. Both 80's counterculture as well as her experience as part of an immigrant community heavily influence her work. She has studied acting, film, cinematography and creative writing. She has also worked on numerous independent film productions, from features to shorts, as well as a music documentary, music videos and commercials. Her own video pieces and writing have appeared in IndiePlanet.com. Current projects include a selection of short stories and work on a feature length screenplay. Alma is a member of The Writer's Voice
