MICHAEL MONTEL
Among the proudest of veteran director Michael Montel's achievements
are his years spent with Hal Prince, Stephen Porter, and T. Edward Hambleton
as Artistic Director of the Phoenix Theatre, presenting rotating Rep
on Broadway. Other Broadway credits include Inge's Summer Brave starring
Alexis Smith, Jill Eikenberry and Ernest Thompson and revivals of The
Member of the Wedding starring Mary Beth Hurt and Holiday with John Glover,
David Dukes and Charlotte Moore. For the York Theater's Musicals in Mufti
series Montel has directed stellar casts in Me and Juliet, Johnny Jonson,
The Girl Who Came to Supper, and Wish You Were Here, among others. Montel's
directoral vision has also graced contemporary opera in the world premieres
of Balseros by Robert Ashley and Maria Irene Fornes, P.D.Q. Bach's (Peter
Schickele) The Abduction of Figaro, Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti (available
on CD), Holst's Savitri, and Copland's The Tender Land with the composer
conducting.
Michael Montel is directing How I Learned to Draw a Sheep, an original electro-acoustic
musical in development by CCi1s Dynamic Duo, Douglas Geers and Guillermo Castro,
Downstairs at The Cornelia Street Café on April 28, 29, 2004.
