WILLIAM SCHIMMEL
Composer and accordionist William Schimmel has performed with major orchestras such as Chicago Symphony and New York Philharmonic; with pop stars such as Sting and Tom Waits; and in films, videos, and cable programs ranging from Tango of the Winds to the Oscar-winning film Scent of a Woman. As a composer, he has written music for accordion, as well as for Broadway shows, pop singers, choreographers, and classical ensembles. He is the founder of the renowned Tango Project, and is also an authority on the music of Kurt Weill.
William Schimmel has been nominated for a Grammy Award, has won a Stereo Review Album of the Year award, and has received grants from the American Music Center and Meet the Composer. He currently heads the Neupauer Conservatory Order of the Shield program in New York, a private studies program for gifted students on the university and graduate level.
