Carl Stone was born in Los Angeles lives in San Francisco. He studied composition at the California Institute for the Arts with Morton Subotnick and James Tenney. Since 1972, he has composed electro-acoustic music exclusively. He has collaborated with numerous musicians and choreographers, including dancer/choreographer Bill T. Paul Dresher Ensemble, the Strings Plus Festival, Michiko Akao, Sumire Yoshihara, and Sony PCL.Stone served as President of the American Music Center from 1992-95, was Director of Meet the Composer/California from 1981-97, and is a former Music Director for KPFK-fm. Currently he hosts a radio show on KPFA, writes a regular column for Sound & Recording Magazine (Japan), and is Web Editor for Other Minds, a website devoted to New Music.
